Govt working on energy plan

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 25: Adviser to the prime minister on finance Salman Shah has said the government is working on a comprehensive energy plan for 2030 which is under implementation, as energy drives the future economic growth of the country.

In a meeting with Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) managing director Munawar Baseer Ahmed on Friday, the adviser said the economy was growing at seven per cent, while the energy sector is growing at double the rate.

He said the SSGC management informed him about Pakistan’s first integrated LNG import project for which the company is the facilitator.

He pointed out that country’s indigenous gas resources were insufficient to meet the increasing demand beyond 2010 and in this regard LNG was a very feasible option.

According to a press release, Mr Shah also discussed the ongoing transitional pipeline projects with the company and suggested more alternative gas pipeline routes based on economic and geo-political realities.
