World Cup readiness in doubt

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Aug 24: Most, if not all of stadiums and training grounds being constructed for the 2007 World Cup in West Indies are ahead of schedule. However, there are now concerns about readiness of Brian Lara Stdium now under construction at Tarouba in Trinidad & Tobago.

This assessment is contained in a report from Don Lockerbie, World Cup venue development director. He outlines progress at each stadium and insight into what will take place in next three months as Nov 30 deadline for completion of legacy components of stadiums, ICC and stakeholders review tour draw closer.

“That tour is when ICC will give its final thumbs-up or thumbs-down, and it is therefore critical that stadiums are finished their concrete and steel works by that deadline,” he said.—Agencies
