GUJRANWALA, Aug 24: The Punjab government has issued a list of 46 activists of a defunct outfit and directed the district police officer to take them into custody to combat sectarianism.

The government is in action against the defunct outfit activists following the foiling of London airport plot and it has directed all DPOs to launch a crackdown on these activists.

On Thursday, the Satellite Town police arrested Qari Ghulam Murtaza of the defunct Jaish Muhammad and produced him before the local anti-terrorism court No 2. The court ordered that he should be produced before the DPO to get a surety bond about his good conduct. The police produced him before the special branch from where he was released after taking a surety bond of his good conduct within few hours.

It is stated that these activists will have to submit surety bonds of good conduct to the special branch. However, most of these activists have gone underground.

DACOITY: Dacoits made off with cash, jewellery, valuables and a car in three strikes in and around the city on Thursday.

Four armed men entered house of a PTCL employee, Rana Masood, in Sultanpura by scaling the boundary wall. They locked the inmates in a room and escaped after collecting Rs700,000 in cash, jewellery and valuables.

Fatima Bibi and her daughter, Nadia Bibi, were on their way after drawing Rs600,000 from a bank in Satellite Town when two armed men snatched away the bag containing cash.

Four car riders deprived Akram of Rs40,000 in cash, two cell phones and car near Green Town.

X-ray unit: The patients have to suffer due to some malfunction in the main X-ray machine at the DHQ hospital for the last many days.

Some patients said here on Thursday since the machine went out of order, they had to visit private clinics to get their X-ray reports where doctors were charging exorbitant fees. They also pointed out that the hospital administration had almost doubled the X-ray fee, now charging Rs60 against the previous Rs35.

They demanded that the defect in the machine be rectified on priority.

Hospital medical superintendent claimed the fault in the main x-ray machine would be got rectified within the next few days. Regarding the fee increase, he said the hike in the X-ray film price had compelled the hospital administration to enhance the charges.

City District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha has also sought a report from the hospital administration regarding the defective x-ray machine and the fee raise.
