PML lawmakers vow to defeat motion

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 24: A group of parliamentarians led by Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain called on Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in his chamber in the Parliament House on Thursday and reposed their confidence in his leadership and expressed determination to defeat the no-confidence motion filed by the opposition.

The parliamentarians said the charge-sheet attached to the no-confidence motion lacked substance, did not contain anything new, was a cut-and-paste job based on old material and contained allegations that were completely baseless.

The parliamentarians said: “The no-confidence motion is doomed to fail as it has no resonance amongst the opinion makers or in the masses. It is a desperate attempt to hide the differences within the ranks of the Opposition. The Opposition has yet to file a single piece of significant legislation which is its primary job.”

The parliamentarian said the no-confidence motion is nothing but a desperate attempt to divert the attention of the government from the massive nation building and development activities undertaken by it across the length and breadth of the country.

Mr Aziz reiterated the resolve of the government to continue its efforts for the betterment of the people and prosperity of the country.

He said the PML and its allied parties were fully united and observed that the opposition’s no-trust motion had further strengthened the coalition government.

He said: “The no-confidence motion has failed to divert the attention of the government from the real issues.

‘‘The government is committed to serve the people. It is working to further accelerate growth, abolish corruption, promote good governance and it is continuously introducing reforms to bring improvement in every sphere of life. The government will continue to serve the people with full commitment and vigour.”

The group besides Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain comprised Information and Broadcasting Minister Mohammad Ali Durrani, Minister for Defence Rao Sikandar Iqbal, Minister for Privatization Zahid Hamid, Minister for Defence Production Habibullah Warraich, Minister for Political Affairs Engineer Amir Muqam, Advisor to Prime Minister Khalil-ur-Rehman, Minister of State for Information Senator Tariq Azeem, Minister of State for Finance Umer Ayub, Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Raza Hayat Hiraj and MNAs Nasrullah Dreshak, Anwar Ali Cheema, Amjad Warraich, Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel, Rao Ajmal, Ali Akbar Wains and Pir Mohammad Shah Khagga.
