KARACHI: Flooded areas getting due attention: DHA

KARACHI, Aug 24: The Defence Housing Authority on Thursday said that a section of press, including electronic media, had inadvertently joined in the propaganda aimed at creating an impression that the DHA and the Clifton Cantonment Board had been showing apathy towards salvaging certain areas of Bath Island affected by the unprecedented rains and flooding.

“The perception that the areas of Clifton and Bath Island submerged in knee-deep rainwater fall under the jurisdiction and administrative control of the DHA and CCB is fallacious and totally wrong,” a DHA release said.

The Clifton Block 8 submerged in knee-deep water as a result of the discharge of the accumulated rainwater from Clifton underpass to the low-lying areas under the CCB control. The CCB had employed its efforts to the fullest to combat the rain emergencies which, however, had not borne the desired result. This was because of the limitations of the low-lying location of the area and non-availability of adequate drainage outlets which were passing through Block 7, that was under the control of city government.

The relentless rain emergency operation launched by DHA and CCB to drain out the standing rainwater was vigorous, and it continued incessantly despite the fact that the available resources were not enough to match the enormity and the magnitude of the damage caused by the rainfall.—PPI
