Five Machis killed

Published August 24, 2006

LARKANA, Aug 23: A tribal feud claimed the lives of five members of a family in the early hours of Wednesday in Ratodero apparently because one of their youths had had a court marriage with the girl of another clan.

Police said the Kolachis harboured a grudge against Allah Rakhio of the Machi clan for marrying Kamalan -– both 18 -– in Karachi three months ago.

Ten assailants dispatched by them from neighbouring Balochistan forced their way into Rakhio’s house and opened fire on all the family members while they were still sleeping. Four people — Rakhio, Kamalan, Ghuram and Rosa — died on the spot while 11 people were injured.

All the injured were later taken to the Chandka Medical College where a three-year-old child died.—Correspondent
