Injury ends Kumble’s county stint

NEW DELHI, Aug 23: Indian leg spinner Anil Kumble is nursing a shoulder injury and has curtailed his stint with English county Surrey, the club said on Wednesday. India's most successful Test and one-day bowler has been diagnosed with tendonitis in his right shoulder and would return home for rest and recovery, Surrey said on their web site.

The 35-year-old Kumble underwent surgery on the same bowling shoulder in 2001 to recover from a career-threatening injury.

His brief Surrey stint included a match-winning haul of 11 for 183 against Northamptonshire.

“It is disappointing that my shoulder injury has prevented me from taking part in the rest of Surrey's season,” Kumble said.

Kumble, the fourth highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with 533, is aiming for a one-day comeback after a year.—Reuters
