Ticket holders refunded
LONDON, Aug 22: Surrey refunded all cricket fans on Tuesday who had bought tickets for the cancelled fifth day of the England-Pakistan Test at The Oval which was sensationally forfeited on Sunday.
Over 11,000 people had purchased tickets in advance for Monday's fifth day of play at The Oval — but Pakistan were deemed to have forfeited the fourth and final Test — after they were found guilty of ball-tampering.
“As the venue responsible for hosting this event, Surrey County Cricket Club and the Brit Oval deeply regret the inconvenience caused to members and spectators as a result of this decision. This was beyond our control,” said Surrey Chief Executive Paul Sheldon.
“However we have now done everything in our power to ensure that all fifth day purchasers were successfully reimbursed.”
Reports had put the cost of the scrapped fifth day at about 400,000 pounds (US$750,000).
The money should appear on all ticket holders' accounts within the next three days, Surrey said.
The county added that all Sunday's spectators could claim a 40-percent refund on their tickets.—AFP
