COLOMBO, Aug 22: Bangladesh will host the 11th edition of the South Asian Games in 2008, it was learnt here on Tuesday. “Bangladesh has been awarded the next Games and they will be deciding the dates in consultation with the affiliated members country,” said a spokesman of the South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC ) while talking to APP here on Tuesday.

He said the decision was taken at the Executive Committee meeting of the SAOC which was held on Monday.

He said Bangladesh expressed its desire to hold the Games which the house approved .

“We hope that Bangladesh will be holding the Games at suitable dates in a smooth manner,” he added.

The spokesman said the house also approved holding of the South Asia Winter Games on the pattern of Winter Olympics and India was awarded the first edition which will also be held in 2008.

“SAOC is expanding the span of its activities and the objective is to make collective efforts for the cause of sports in all affiliated member countries and introduction of winter games is a part of such efforts,” he said.
