More rain forecast

LAHORE, Aug 22: The stationary monsoon low over Indian Rajasthan which tilted towards Sindh on Monday would not give heavy rains in the province because it had further weakened, the Flood Forecasting Division said here on Tuesday.

According to it, the province remained under a cloud cover because of the low pressure and there were chances of fairly widespread rain over its southeastern parts during the next 24 hours. The rain would not be heavy.

It said scattered rain might also fall over the upper catchments of all the major rivers along with Peshawar and Kohat divisions.

Isolated rain was also expected over Punjab and eastern Balochistan.

Meanwhile, the FFD reported that the authorities concerned were maintaining the level of the filled Mangla and Tarbela dams by releasing water from them in accordance with the amount of their respective inflows.

There was no immediate threat of heavy rains in the catchments of the rivers Indus and Jhelum and that was why no warning had been issued to Wapda regarding the release of extra water from both the dams, it said.
