Bank scam victims’ protest

SIALKOT, Aug 22: Hunger strike by scores of affected account holders in the UBL’s alleged fraud case entered the second day on Tuesday. They staged a peaceful sit-in and a demonstration against the Rs25 million fraud in bank’s Zafarwal branch, Shakargarh. They were chanting slogans against the bank management for not paying them their `plundered’ money.

Zafarwal UC nazim Mujahid Mukhtar told this correspondent the protesters had been preventing the branch from public dealing for the last eight days after refusal by the bank management to make payments to all affected people.

Meanwhile, UBL Narowal area manager Jaffar M Janjua in a press release said the Zafarwal branch had been working normally and no such incident took place on Aug 21 and 22. — Correspondent
