Rs4m heist: three bank guards held

SIALKOT, Aug 22: The Kotwali police on Tuesday solved the mystery of Rs4 million bank theft, arrested three security guards of the bank and recovered the looted money. Sialkot DPO Zubair Nawaz Chattha told newsmen that Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Arif and Abdul Razzaq of a private security company had stolen gold ornaments, cash in rupees and foreign currencies and other valuables worth Rs4 million from lockers of National Bank’s Mujahid Road branch during the Aug 14 holiday. The DPO said the police had also recovered the stolen items from a field near Jaamkey Cheema-Daska.

Police have registered a case and sent the accused behind the bars.

Meanwhile, the NBP management awarded cash prize and appreciation certificates to Kotwali police officials during a special ceremony here at bank’s regional headquarters.

SHOT DEAD: A trader was shot dead by dacoits at his general store in Sadar Bazaar here late Monday night.

The armed men entered the general store of Rizwan and made him hostage along with the customers at gunpoint. When the trader resisted, the dacoits opened fire, killing him on the spot.
