KARACHI: Admissions to BDS at Dow varsity


KARACHI, Aug 22: The vice-chancellor of the Dow University of Health Sciences, Prof Masood Hameed Khan, has announced that admissions to the BDS programme will be offered at the Dr Ishratul Ibad Institute of Oral Health from September.

According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, the vice-chancellor speaking at a programme organised at the varsity's Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology, said that the DUHS' Al Razi International Medical College would invite application for its MBBS programme from children of overseas Pakistanis and other intending candidates by October.

Dr Khan said the two projects were among several of the schemes initiated by the DUHS, which was in fast process of emerging as a multi-faceted academic cum research centre, equally well-equipped to offer masses updated diagnostic and treatment facilities.

The vice-chancellor said that faculty and other relevant staff had already been appointed for the two teaching centres and each would initially offer 50 and 100 seats respectively, on basis of merit only.

He thanked the Higher Education Commission (HEC) as well as the Sindh government along with Dowiites for their support and mentioned that National Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology, Institute of Nursing and Institute of Medical Technologists were already functioning while Dr Sarwar Zubeiri's Institute of Liver Diseases was about to be completed.

Institute of Genome, Radio-Diagnostic Centre, Research and Reference Lab at the DUHS are also among different schemes, he said.

The DUHS vice-chancellor particularly thanked the Dow graduates (Dowiites 1980 batch) for donating the Laser Therapy Machine for DUHS's Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology, preventing blindness among hundreds of patients due to retinopathy.—APP
