KARACHI: PPP slams irregularities

Published August 23, 2006

KARACHI, Aug 22: Secretary-General of PPP Sindh Nafis Siddiqui in a meeting with Election Commission officials in Islamabad explained his party's views on irregularities during enumeration of voters list in Sindh, including Karachi.

Talking to newsmen on Tuesday in Karachi, he alleged that the ruling coalition parties were influencing enumeration staff in not registering voters belonging to the opposition parties, particularly the PPP.

Mr Siddiqui further alleged that the ruling alliance was getting its supporters enrolled as voters in various constituencies of the province.

He said he had proposed to the Election Commission officials to update the electoral list used in general elections held in 2002.

He said election commission secretary would visit Karachi next week and meet PPP Sindh President Qaim Ali Shah, Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly Nisar Khuhro, Dr Fehmida Mirza MNA and Sindh PPP Information Secretary to discuss PPP’s complaints relating to enumeration work of voters list.—PPI
