SWABI, Aug 21: After waiting for about six decades, people of the remote mountainous Ghani Chathra region finally got electricity when a new system built at a cost Rs1 million was put into operation on Monday.

Provision of electric supply had been a long-standing demand of the people of this area. The villagers, sources said, made a lot of efforts and met leaders of different political parties for this facility but nothing came out of their efforts. About a year ago a delegation of the area residents met MNA Maulana Khalil who pledged to arrange funds for provision of electricity to the region. The Maulana fulfilled his promise and arranged the funds.

“We switched on supply to the region on Monday and it was the first time these people saw their area lit by electricity,” said an official.

HEALTH: Nazim Tehsil Swabi Hanif Gul Jadoon has said that he attaches top priority to provision of health facilities to the people and the town municipal administration has been making huge spending in the health sector.

He was addressing on conclusion of a first-aid training programme on Monday.
