SUKKUR, Aug 19: Fourteen villages came under water in various parts of the province on Saturday owing to erosion caused by the Indus river in kutcha area and a breach developed in the Left Bank Outfall Drain.
Eight villages and crops over hundreds of acres were inundated owing to erosion caused by the Indus river in kutcha area of Bagarji in the Sukkur district.
The affected villages included Sachi Dino Jatoi, Nebhao Jatoi, Piyaro Kharoos, Damdama and Pathan Jatoi.
Villagers said dozens of houses and cattle had been washed away.
The administration officials along with armymen helped about 800 villagers move to a relief camp set up on an embankment.
MIRPURKHAS: Meanwhile, a 20-foot breach developed in the saline water LBOD, inundating half a dozen villages.
The breach developed at M5R location in the area of the Khan police after irrigation authorities had diverted flood-water into LBOD in order to reduce pressure on canals.
The saline water entered the villages of Rahib Wassan, Ali Dino Mari, Dawood Wassan, Meero Mari, Ali Sher Mari and Sarwar Mari. Residents moved to safe places.
The repair work at the breach site was under way.
APP adds: Meanwhile, flood situation in the Kotri Barrage command area remained normal. A medium flood peak of 300,000 to 400,000 cusecs was expected to pass through the barrage between August 20 and 21.
Emergency was declared in the livestock department with directives to district officers to carry out vaccination in flood-affected areas.
