Highwayman killed by police


KASUR, Aug 18: A robber was shot dead while a policeman and a passerby suffered injuries in an exchange of fire near Bheemkay village, about four kilometres from Chunian, on Friday.

According to the police, Booty Jolaha, who was involved in 13 incidents of heinous crime and recently released from jail, together with accomplices, was looting cash and valuables from passersby near Bheemkay village on the Chunian Road.

On a tip-off, Kasur DPO Syed Ahmad Mobeen constituted a raiding team which reached the place of incidence. Seeing the police, the armed men opened fire which was returned.

As a result of encounter which lasted for a few hours, ring leader Booty Jolaha died on the spot while policeman Ghulam Dastgeer and a passerby suffered serious injuries. Another criminal, Tufail, was arrested while Rana Raza escaped. — Correspondent
