KARACHI, Aug 17: The requisitioned session of the Sindh Assembly on Friday is likely to draw fireworks as the opposition has made enough preparations to give a tough time to treasury benches.
The joint opposition has many pressing issues, including the situation after recent downpour in Karachi and rural areas where due to blocked drainage system, people had to face untold miseries.
The issue of preparations of new electoral rolls would be taken up through adjournment motions.
The session was summoned by Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah on a request from 43 MPAs of the joint opposition to discuss various issues of public interest.
The joint parliamentary party of the opposition was scheduled to meet on Thursday evening to chalk out its strategy for the session, but due to heavy downpour, the meeting was postponed and now the opposition would meet at 8.30am before going to the house in the chamber of the leader of the opposition.
The ruling coalition’s parliamentary party also met at the Chief Minister’s House at 9pm where strategy for the assembly session was discussed , it is learnt.
Although there is a relief commissioner, but so far no relief package has been announced for the people who had been facing hardships due to damages caused to their crops and properties by rains and flash floods.
The other issues which the opposition would like to bring to the notice of the house pertain to difficulties being faced by the people in getting themselves enrolled in the new electoral rolls being prepared for the 2007 general elections.
According to the leader of the opposition, Mr Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, irregularities amount to pre-poll rigging.
The ban on teachers associations is another sensitive issue as it was not only contrary to democratic norms..
