Eight held in Khost raids


KABUL, Aug 16: US-led coalition and Afghan troops raided two suspected Al Qaeda sanctuaries in southeastern Afghanistan on Wednesday and detained eight “terrorists,” the US military said.

The soldiers targeted two compounds in Khost province after intelligence linked people living there to helping foreign militants and plotting roadside bomb attacks, it said in a statement. The compounds “were suspected of being sanctuaries for Al Qaeda facilitators,” it said.—AFP
