Golf team trial from Sunday

KARACHI, Aug 16: Country's leading 23 amateur golfers will appear in trials staring from Sunday to select Pakistan squad to take part in the Eisenhower Trophy World Amateur golf championship, a representative of the Pakistan Golf Federation announced on Wednesday.

The championship will be held at De Zalfa & Stellenbosch Golf Club from October 26.

Initially, the PGF had planned to conduct the trials over 108 holes spread over six days at Karachi Golf Club and Arabian Sea Country Club but it may now be reduced to 72 holes, member of the PGF selection committee and executive committee Asad I. A. Khan said.

He added that the selection committee comprising Rai Azizullah, Mahmood Aziz, Zulfiqar Rana and PGF secretary Taimur Hassan selects a three-member team and one standby.

Following players have so far confirmed their participation in the trials:

Vaqas Ahmed, Aadil Jahangir, Aly Rana, Safdar Khan, Waseem Rana, Mohammad Ali Hai, Abrar Ahmed, Ali Sher, Sajid Khan, Ayaz Gul, Mohsin Khan, Qarrar Hussain, Umer Bangash, Daniyal Jahangir, Azhar Ali Shah, Bilal-ur-Rehman, Aleem-ur-Rehman, Tariq Ali Khan, Amjad Rahim.—APP
