MULTAN, Aug 16: Former provincial minister Nasrullah Khan Jatoi was shot dead on Wednesday in Jatoi tehsil of Muzaffargarh allegedly over a domestic dispute. The deceased, a former Jatoi tehsil nazim, was the younger brother of former PPP MNA and the sitting Muzaffargarh district nazim, Sardar Abdul Qayyum Jatoi.

According to Jatoi police station house officer Inspector Rana Qamaruz Zaman, initially it was learnt that Nasrullah Jatoi alias Pappu Khan had been fired at and injured at his residence allegedly by his brother-in-law Sarfraz Khan Jatoi alias Bhutto.

After being given first aid at the Jatoi tehsil headquarters hospital, the injured was being taken to the Nishter Hospital, Multan, when his condition deteriorated, and he had to be admitted to the Muzaffargarh DHQ hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. According to the doctors at the hospital, the deceased had fatal bullet injuries on his lower abdominal area.

Sources privy to the Jatoi family said Mr Nasrullah had contracted a second marriage, after which he got estranged with the family of his first wife. Nasrullah and Sarfraz exchanged hot words before the latter opened fire with an assault AK-47 rifle, they added.

Some other sources said that a day before his murder, Nasrullah Jatoi had beaten up his brother-in-law Zeeshan on knowing hat the latter had allegedly developed illicit relations with the sister of his second wife.

Jatoi police have yet to register the case and arrest the accused.

The deceased’s funeral prayers were offered at his native Jatoi town. People from all walks of life attended his last rites.
