KARACHI, Aug 16: Yar Mohammad Yar, a senior progressive political worker of Lyari and popularly known as ‘Comrade Yar’, died on Tuesday night after a protracted illness. He was 69.
He leaves behind a widow, two sons and three daughters to mourn his death.
He was buried in Mewashah Graveyard on Wednesday. Community leaders, Baloch intellectuals and journalists in a large number attended his funeral.
Comrade Yar was a Marxist and had been a senior member of the defunct National Awami Party. He had played an active role in Balochistan National Movement in 1960s. He was among the NAP leaders arrested in 1965 on sedition charge.
He had quit active politics after the NAP was disbanded and devoted himself in literary work. He contributed many articles on Balochistan for newspapers.
