KARACHI, Aug 16: Two more suspects have been remanded to police custody till Aug 23 for allegedly masterminding suicide attack to kill Allama Hassan Turabi in Karachi.

Ashfaq Qureshi and Mohammad Akbar Khan were produced before administrative judge of Karachi's anti- terrorism courts Justice Amir Hani Muslim for obtaining their remand. They were arrested following raid by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell.

Mohammad Amin alias Khalid Shaheen, Sultan Mehmood alias Saifullah and Mohammad Rehman alias Mani were already in the cusotdy. They are accused of masterminding suicide attack to kill Allama Hasan Turabi and preparing a suicide bomber for executing a plan. Hasan Turabi and his nephew Imran Ali were killed in a suicide bomb blast in limits of Sachal police station on July 14.

Police said alleged suicide bomber, later identified as Abdul Karim, blew himself with explosive material when Hasan Turabi reached his house after attending a rally against Israeli aggression in Lebanon.

Three policemen Azhar Hussain, Fakhar Hussain, Mohammad Rashid and a woman Ms Noreen were also injured in the blast.

Five co-accused Mufti Ilyas, Hazrat Ali, Sohail Siddiqui, Ali Hasan and Khalid were still at large.

Akbar and Ashfaq were also remanded to police custody till Aug 23 in another case pertaining to attempt to murder Allama Turabi through remote controlled bomb on April 6.

Police said accused planted a remote-controlled bomb in a pushcart to kill Hasan Turbi when he was travelling on Abul Hasan Isfahani Road in limits of Mubina Town police station but he escaped unhurt in this attempt. However, Murtaza Turabi, son of Hasan Turabi, gunmen Mashooq and other pedestrian were injured in the blast.

Investigation officer of the case, meanwhile, sought further time to submit chargesheet of the cases as two co-accused were recently arrested in connection with said offence and investigation of the case could not be completed.

The judge, extending time, directed the investigation officer to to submit the charge-sheet on Aug 23.—PPI
