KARACHI, Aug 16: The vice-chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences, Prof Masood Hameed Khan, inaugurated a master-trainer workshop on integrated management of childhood and neonatal illness on Tuesday.
The workshop was held at the Paediatric Unit-III of Civil Hospital Karachi in collaboration with the Unicef. Integrated Management of Childhood and Neonatal Illness (IMCNI) is a WHO approved strategy to reduce infant and childhood deaths by common treatable and preventable problems like pneumonia, diarrhoea, malnutrition & anaemia, malaria, worm infestation, tetanus, low birth weight babies and other new born problems, said one of the organizers.
The inaugural session was attended by the representative of the WHO Sindh Operations Officer Dr Abdul Wahid Bhurt, who assured full support for this preventive and useful strategy practicing in all developing world to achieve desired goals.
Prof Hameed lauded the programme and suggested that its computerized version should be available to all healthcare providers to expand its benefits to health community.
CHK Medical Superintendent Dr Kaleem Butt, Dr Mir Mohammad Shaikh, Prof Iqbal Ahmad Memon and Dr M.N. Lal also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of these programme chalked out for reduction of child mortality rate.
In all 18 participants from Karachi & Hyderabad districts participated in the workshop.
