Bankruptcy trials
TASHKENT, Aug 16: Authorities in Uzbekistan said on Wednesday they had launched bankruptcy proceedings against a joint venture of Newmont Mining, the latest step in a process that the US gold giant has described as an expropriation attempt.
State creditors of the Zarafshan-Newmont Joint Venture, which has a massive open-pit mine in the deserts of Uzbekistan, will meet on Sept 19 to discuss the company’s tax debts.—AFP
