Indian allegation rejected

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15: The Foreign Office spokesperson on Tuesday rejected the Indian allegation that Pakistan was involved in cross-border terrorism. When her comments were sought on the Indian prime minister’s statement that Pakistan should stop cross-border terrorism, FO spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said: “Pakistan is committed to fighting terrorism and we are also committed to the peace process with India.”

She said it would be very unfortunate if terrorism was allowed to undermine this process.

She cited the unravelling of the London terror plot as the latest example of international cooperation, saying that’s what happened when countries trusted each other, cooperated with each other and shared intelligence with each other.

However, she said: “We cannot cooperate with any country which is in the habit of making allegations and which has a history of not cooperating with us.”

She said Pakistan had not received any evidence regarding any terrorist act in India and thus it was not possible for Pakistan to offer any kind of cooperation.

The spokesperson described as irresponsible and dangerous a demand of the BJP leadership that the Indian government should unleash military aggression against Pakistan and Bangladesh on the pretext of fighting terrorism.—Q.A
