Eight die in Balochistan explosions, clashes

Quetta, Aug 15: At least eight people, three of them security personnel, were killed and 19 others injured in nine explosions and armed clashes in different areas of Balochistan on Tuesday.

“Four people died in two explosions that occurred in Hub and Rakhni areas,” officials said.

The banned Baloch Liberation Army accepted the responsibility of bomb explosions in Hub, Rakhni and Quetta on the Independence Day.

According to officials, a powerful bomb exploded at the Serat Chowk of Hub, killing three people and injuring four others. They said that a man, selling national flags was blown up. Two other injured persons died in the hospital.

The second bomb exploded in a small hotel in the Rakhni Bazar in Barkhan district, killing a tribesman, Noor Khan Khetran. Three other people were injured.

Four people were injured in a bomb explosion in Nushki.

Six more bombs exploded in Quetta, Kalat and Mach areas. In Quetta, four blasts rocked the city.

Two bombs exploded in Kalat and Mach towns.

Meanwhile, three persons, including two security personnel, were killed in a landmine blast. Officials said that a vehicle of the security forces hit a landmine in the Suro area of Kahan tehsil in Kohlu district.

The landmine victims were identified as Mohammad Arshad and Mohammad Saleem.

Another man, Mustafa, was killed in a landmine explosion in the Sangsella area of Dera Bugti district, official sources said.

A tribesman, Qaim Khan, was killed when a tribal convoy came under heavy firing near the Loti area. Sources said that seven people were injured in the firing. Officials said that over two dozen rockets were fired in the Sui area. Tribesmen also blew up two power transmission towers.
