KARACHI, Aug 15: Fancied three-year-old bay filly, Safari Queen, posted a facile five lengths victory to land the Independence Day Cup in the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Monday.

As predicted in these columns, she led the pack of seven runners in a start to finish bid with a smart timing of 1 min 6 2/5 secs.

Jockey M. Nasir who rode the filly home was applauded for his feat by holiday punters as he entered the paddock along with owner Gul Mohammad Rajar and trainer Mushtaq Ali Khan.

Occupying second place was three-year-old chestnut colt Moon Raker, while three-year-old bay colt Captain Black settled for third by finishing further six lengths behind.

Five-year-old bay horse King Of Sanghar, with M. Hanif astride, grabbed the Fantastic Face Stakes Cup when he edged out chestnut Yes Neighbour Yes by three lengths.

The KRC Cup ended in a blaze of glory for mare Countess Mah Again when she got the better of chestnut Dil Phaink by one three quarter of a length in closely fought battle.

Desperado made amends of three dismal runs when he sprinted to victory by Mohammad Essa by half length. Fresh from his triumph he piloted public fancy Chaleswan Chur to third win in a row to complete his double.

The Conqueror’s won its second race on the trot, beating Red Rufus by a wide margin of eight lengths which enabled the trio comprising rider Nasir, owner Rajar and trainer Mushtaq to register a splendid double.

Chand Aya also justified his top billing when he beat Jaguar by four lengths to claim honours.

Four-year-old bay colt, Jack In the Box, was home by nine lengths with A. Aziz in the saddle while colt Hot Strides with two wins under his belt completed hat trick beating Champion Express by four lengths.

Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim who graced the occasion announced a grant of one million rupees for the Karachi Race Club (KRC).
