MMA stopped from staging rally

TOBA TEK SINGH, Aug 15: Police did not allow MMA workers to take out a rally on Independence Day. The rally, which started from Civil Lines, was stopped by police near railway crossing. They informed the MMA leaders that due to ban on taking out rallies under Section 144 CrPC, they could not take out rally. The MMA held a public meeting at the same place instead of Saddar Bazaar Chowk.

The MMA leaders condemned Israeli aggression on Lebanon and said time has come to eliminate all such rulers who were watching America and other imperialist forces’ interests.

Meanwhile, the district government also held a function in the Government Model High School where nazim Abdul Sattar hoisted national flag. A function was held at the tehsil council lawns where former district nazim Chaudhry Ashfaq and tehsil nazim Javed Iqbal addressed the gathering.

At Kamalia, an Independence Day function was presided over by Punjab Women Development Minister Begum Ashifa Riaz Fatyana.

CANAL BREACH: Standing crops on hundreds of acres of land near Chaks 387 JB and 389 JB on Jhang Road were inundated on Tuesday as a result of a breach in Bhangoo sub canal.

The breach, which was initially 15 feet wide, later widened to 30 feet. However, after closure of the canal, the water flow towards both villages became slow and no damage to houses in the villages was reported.

The irrigation department staff and residents of the area were busy in filling the breach till the filing of this report.

The cause of breach could not be known.

The Jhang irrigation XEN had ordered a probe into the cause of breach.

RAPE CASE: Pirmahal police registered on Tuesday case against Iqbal Chadhar of Kakki Nau village in Shorkot for raping a married woman.
