LAHORE, Aug 15: A three-year-old girl died when the string of a kite slit open her throat in Mustafabad on the Independence Day. Yousaf was going along with his daughter Khatija on a motorcycle to his house in Islamia Park, Samanabad, after meeting his relatives in Mustafabad when the string of a stray kite cut her throat. She was rushed to hospital where she died. The area people held a demonstration against her death and chanted slogans against police.
ACCIDENTS: Five persons were killed in accidents in the city on Monday and Tuesday.
Janat Bibi, 50, of Ravi Road, and four unidentified elderly men were hit by speeding four-wheelers in Naseerabad, New Anarkali, Jauhar Town and Data Darbar and were rushed to hospitals where they died.
SUICIDE: A father of four and a youth allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents on Tuesday.
Falik Sher was reportedly jobless these days. On Tuesday, he locked himself in a room and took poison. He was rushed to hospital were he died. The body was handed over to the family without autopsy.
Omar, 22, was reportedly upset over the death of his mother. On Tuesday, he reportedly parked his car in the Upper Mall area and shot himself dead.
MURDER: A restaurant owner was shot dead over a trivial issue in Kot Lakhpat on Tuesday.
Police said that Abdullah, 25, had a quarrel with his customer Shahid over the bill payment. Shahid opened fire on Abdullah following the dispute, killing him on the spot.
IGP: IGP Ziaul Hasan Khan has appreciated the performance of the Lahore police for maintaining law and order during the Independence Day and MQM and MMA public meetings.
He said that red-alert was announced in the city on the reports of the intelligence agencies.
Meanwhile, the MQM leadership has also thanked DIG (operations) Aamir Zulifqar Khan for cooperating and providing security to its meeting in Lahore.
