SYDNEY, Aug 11: Australian athletics are expecting Robbie Crowther and Chris Noffke to continue a tradition of strong performances in the long jump event at next week's IAAF World Junior Championships in Beijing.
Athletics Australia (AA) said on Friday that Australia is the third most successful nation in the men’s long jump at the world juniors and it is expecting its two talented leapers to bring home more medals from China.
Only Cuba and the United States have a better record in the long jump event than Australia at the world juniors, AA said.
Australia has won two medals and claimed seven top-8 places.
Crowther is ranked second in the world behind 17-year-old Chinese athlete Zhang Xiaoyi and Noffke is a 2005 world youth champion. The championships begin on Tuesday.—AFP
