KARACHI, Aug 11: Second seed Yasir Khan survived a scare when he overcame a spirited challenge from Ahmed Iqbal in three gruelling sets to cruise into the men’s singles last eight of the Sindh Ranking tennis tournament at the DHA Sunset Club on Friday.
Yasir, youngest of the Khan siblings, struggled to beat Ahmed, a rank outsider, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 to live up to his reputation.
Similarly, third seed Danish Ahmed was stretched to limits by Ali Kidwai on his way to register 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory to propel in quarterfinals.
Also joining the two in the next stage was top seed Nomi Qamar whose opponent retired after losing the opener 0-6.
Upcoming Imran Mooraj sailed into the boys U-11 singles final after he got the better of Hamza bin Asif 8-6. He now meets Shehryar Ahmed in the final.
Meanwhile, the organisers have decided to conduct ladies singles on round robin league as they have received only five entries.
