BAHAWALPUR, Aug 11: Goods, including clothes, were distributed among about 4,000 Cholistanis affected by scorching heat in the vast desert here.

Special ceremonies were held on Friday at Qaziwala, Derawar, Mithra and other places in Cholistan where vice-chairman and managing director of Cholistan Development Authority (CDA) Brig Ahsan Nawaz Tiwana (retired) and MPA Dr Muhammad Afzal distributed the articles among affected people.

CDA MD told journalists that the clothes and other articles were part of the foreign aid received for the earthquake victims of Azad Kashmir and the NWFP by the government last year. These articles were piled up in Islamabad, Peshawar and Muzaffarabad. The Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (ERRA) was approached and suggested to send the articles for Cholistan people. He said lists of affected people were prepared through notables of the area.

RALLY: The All-Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) organized a rally to condemn Israeli aggression against Lebanon here on Friday.

The rally was brought out from the TMA office and joined by the subordinate staff of all the government offices. They held banners and placards inscribed with slogans against Israel, the US and Zionists, and raised slogans.

They paraded on the Circular Road up to Farid Gate where APCA leaders addressed them. The speakers urged Pakistan and Arabian countries and the UN to come to the rescue of the people of Lebanon and prevail upon Israel for a ceasefire.
