KHANPUR, Aug 11: A proclaimed offender of the ‘Bhand gang’ was killed in a shootout with police in the riverine area near Tarinda Mohammad Panah late Thursday night.

Police said Abdus Sattar and Saeed were going to Bana Roya village on a motorbike when six armed men stopped them near Tibbi Jhalan. They held Saeed hostage and also took away the motorbike.

Sattar, however, managed to escape and informed the police. Upon which, police teams from Tarinda, Shaidani, Pacca Laran, Zahirpir, Liaquatpur and the elite force reached the spot and surrounded the nearby area.

The accused released Saeed and opened fire on the police party. In retaliation, one of the accused was killed, while the others managed to flee.

The killed dacoit was identified as Fida Husain of the Bhand gang, who was wanted in a number of cases of kidnap, dacoity and murder, as well as in the kidnapping of Jam Fazal Ghaffar, the brother of a former UC nazim. — APP
