KARACHI: Teachers body opposes ban

KARACHI, Aug 11: The Sindh Teachers Forum (STF), an association of schools, colleges and University teachers, on Friday condemned the ban on teachers' associations and demanded of the Sindh Governor to immediately withdraw this decision.

Speaking at a press conference, STF President Nasiruddin Khan and Dr Nasreen Aslam Shah criticized the provincial government for imposing the ban, saying teachers not only impart education to children but also guide society and government on issues of national importance.

“There is no ban on teachers' organizations and associations in any other province in Pakistan except for Sindh.

The ban is against constitution and basic human rights,” they said, adding instead of banning teachers associations, they should have been taken into confidence for improving the standard of education in the province.

They demanded of the education department to prepare a code of conduct for teachers associations in collaboration with teachers' representatives to resolve problems facing both the provincial authorities and teachers community.
