NEW DELHI, Aug 11: A man dressed in women’s clothing who was arrested at Mumbai’s airport shortly after train bombings a month ago has been cleared of links to the attack but will be charged with trespass.
Illiyas Kagdi aroused the suspicion of police when he entered the airport wearing an all-covering burqa and men’s shoes.
Police arrested him after discovering he was a man, believing he could be linked to the July 11 bombings of Mumbai’s rail network.
Kagdi said he had disguised himself in a bid to meet his girlfriend in secret as she was coming to the airport with her parents who objected to their relationship.
After weeks in detention, Kagdi was released on bail.
The anti-terror team of the Mumbai police detained him for questioning and raided his houses, but no evidence to suggest terror links was found.—AFP
