ISLAMABAD, Aug 10: On the emphatic call of the 57-nation Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Geneva the UN Human Rights Council will hold a special session on the deteriorating situation in Lebanon on Friday.
The special session has been convened by the President of the Human Rights Council in response to a joint request by 23 Council members to urgently consider the alarming human rights situation in Lebanon caused by Israeli military operations, a dispatch received from Pakistan’s Permanent Mission in Geneva said.
The request for the special session, made by the OIC and Arab League countries, was supported, among others, by China, Russia, India, South Africa, Cuba, Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay, it said.—Q. A.
