GUJRANWALA, Aug 10: Four more human smugglers were arrested by an FIA raiding party after a brief encounter here on Thursday. Reports said that FIA passport cell assistant director Aqeel Qureshi received information that the accused were present in a factory in Lalamusa.
He constituted a team, led by inspector Kauser Mahmood and SI Nadeem Ashraf, for the arrest of the criminals. As the raiding party reached the spot, the accused opened fire on them which was returned. After a brief shootout, law enforcers succeeded in arresting the outlaws.
Accused Imran Gogi and Asad Galinana, wanted to the FIA for the last three years, had extorted hundreds of thousands of rupees from the people for sending them to Greece.
While accused Gulzar and Jamshed, arrested in a separate raid, were involved in sending the people to Greece. They were recently deported from Greece and were arrested in Gujranwala.
Meanwhile, the FIA announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for the raiding party.
POs: The range police claimed to have arrested 10 proclaimed offenders, 136 court absconders and several dacoits during general holdup on Thursday. This was stated by regional police officer (RPO) Malik Muhammad Iqbal at a briefing here.
He said as many as 18 rifles, 72 pistols, 23 revolvers, 11 guns, two carbines, 696 rounds and looted goods worth Rs900,000, besides a large quantity of narcotics were recovered from their possession.
ONE WINDOW: Taxpayers would be provided with the facility of one-window operation.
This was stated by sales tax collector Muhammad Arshed while speaking at Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Thursday.
He claimed that the Rs14.50 million sales tax recovery target had been completed successfully. He assured the exporters that the verification procedure was being accelerated. He urged the business community to file their returns in time.
GCCI president Akhlaq Ahmad Butt and other office-bearers apprised him about their problems.
