‘Follow Punjab’s reforms’

LAHORE, Aug 10: The two-day inter-provincial meeting of the National Commission for Government Reforms which was presided over by its chairman Dr Ishrat Husain concluded here on Thursday with an advice to other provinces to follow the Punjab government’s reforms pattern in education and health sectors.

The meeting which began on Wednesday had discussed development projects, reforms in different sectors and quality and jobs security of civil servants.

Punjab chief secretary Salman Siddique had briefed it on different aspects of reforms in the province.

During the meeting on Thursday, health and education officials of Sindh and Balochistan gave briefings on reforms in their departments.

Dr Naseem Ashraf of the National Commission of Human Resource gave details of the efforts being made by his institution with regard to civil service reforms.

Officials said the meeting discussed in detail the education and health sectors with focus on primary education and healthcare. It appreciated the reforms introduced by Punjab in these two sectors and asked other provinces to follow the example.

The purpose of the two-day moot was to exchange each other’s experiences and follow the success stories, they said.
