ISLAMABAD, Aug 10: The four-day International Judicial Conference is being opened by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Friday, and over 75 foreign delegates had arrived in the capital by Thursday evening.

The delegates are chief justices, judges, jurists and constitutional experts from all the regions of the world.

Prominent among the delegates and those who will preside over different interactive sessions include chairperson Justice (retd) Cliffard Wallace of the United States of America; Justice Yogesh Kumar Sabharwal, Chief Justice of India; Justice Xi Xiaoming, Judge of Supreme People’s Court of China, Justice Ariranga Govindasamy Pillay, Chief Justice of Mauritius; Justice Abdou Kareem Savage, Chief Justice of Gambia; Justice V Alleear, Ms Bo Svensson, President of the Supreme Court of Sweden, Chief Justice of Seychelles; Justice Milan Karabin, Chief Justice of Slovak Republic; Justice Vyacheslav M. Lebedev, Chief Justice of Russian Federation; Dr Abdullah Muhammad I Al-Sheikh, Minister of Justice, Saudi Arabia; Justice Guy Canivet, Premier President de la Court de Cassation, France and Mrs Ntakaburimvo Marie, President of Federal Supreme Court of Burundi.

Flags of all the participant states would also be hoisted by a police contingent in the conference auditorium. A theme song of the conference “Justice for all” will be presented by singer Amir Munawwar.

Later a specially-built monument in the Supreme Court courtyard depicting the “scale of justice” will be unvieled by the Chief Justice of Pakistan and judges of the Supreme Court in the courtyard of the Supreme Court building.

The concluding session would be attended by President Pervez Musharraf on the evening of the Indpendence Day.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and Chairman of Supreme Judiciary Council of the Republic of Yeman Justice Isam Abdulwahab Al-Samawi paid a courtesy call on Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry in his chamber on Thursday.

During the meeting they exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, especially relating to judicial systems of both the countries.
