ISLAMABAD, Aug 10: Heavy contingents of Frontier Constabulary have been called to further strengthen security arrangements for Independence Day celebrations in the federal capital.

In this regard, a meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat to review the security arrangements on Thursday.

“Apparently there is no threats of terrorist strike on the eve; however, the Islamabad administration is taking all possible measures to avoid any mishap,” deputy commissioner Islamabad Mohammad Ali told Dawn.

He confirmed that the FC had been called to assist the police for maintaining peace during the Independence Day.

He said the FC personnel along with the local police would be deployed in all parks, public places, recreation places/spots, and markets.

The assistant superintendents of police and magistrates have been asked to patrol in their areas.

SSP Islamabad Sikander Hayat told Dawn that over 1,700 police officials and personnel would be deployed at different places.

The Islamabad Traffic Police have also chalked out a plan for the day. According to the plan, all traffic going towards the parade ground will reach Jinnah Avenue via Khayaban Chowk from August 13.

The traffic coming from Rawalpindi will reach Jinnah Avenue via Zero Point and Khayaban Chowk, while those coming from motorway on Kashmir Highway will take left turn from Zero Point and reach Jinnah Avenue via Khayaban Chowk.

The traffic coming from Murree will negotiate a right turn at Dhokri Chowk and use Aabpara-Zero Point route while going towards the Khayaban Chowk.
