Private candidates prove their mettle

MULTAN, Aug 10: All the boards of intermediate and secondary education in the province announced matriculation results on Thursday.

Private candidates showed remarkable results in many parts of Punjab.

In Multan, out of 93,722 candidates who appeared in the examination, 53,865 became successful showing a pass percentage of 57.47. The pass ratio among science group students remained 68.64 per cent while 44.75 per cent among general group candidates.

Regular students showed a 73.98 pass percentage while those who appeared as private candidates showed the success ratio of 41.97 per cent.

Kanwal Noreen (Roll No 5726) of the Government Girls Comprehensive School, Multan, clinched the overall top position by obtaining 982 marks while Tajwar Karim (30805) of the Nishat Girls High School, Multan, secured the second position with 978 marks.

The third position was shared by Aaqib Iftikhar (17717) of the Government Model High School, Vehari, and Rana Salman Qadeer (25865) of the Muslim Public Higher Secondary School Mumtazabad, Multan, by bagging 977 marks. Same are the top position-holders in the science group.

In the General Group, girls secured all top positions. Syeda Sidra Tul-Mun-Taha Gilani (79133) of the Nishat Girls High School, Multan, stood first with 923 marks. While Kulsoom Abdul Haq (66144) of Islamic Ideal Public Girls High School, Multan, and Azka Amin (64139) of the Fatima Jinnah High School, Burewala, clinched second and third positions with 900 and 898 marks, respectively.

An inmate of the Multan Central Jail, Abdul Majeed, (86476) clinched the third position with 834 marks among boys in the general group. He is said to be an activist of the outlawed Lashkar-i-Jhangvi outfit.

BAHAWALPUR: Girls bagged the top three positions in the matriculation results announced by the Bahawalpur Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.

According to a notification, of the 53,496 candidates, 34,394 were declared successful at a percentage of 64.29.

Tayebah Mumtaz (Roll No 1404) of the Government Girls High School, Minchanabad (Bahawalnagar), was declared overall first by securing 972 marks out of 1050. Suhaima Faizi (38095) of FFC Grammar Girls High School, Machi Goth, Sadiqabad clinched second position by obtaining 964 marks.

The third position was bagged by two candidates -- Mudassar Islam (Roll No 3700) of the Government High school, Haroonabad (Bahawalnagar) and Mariam Younis (36776) of Oxbridge Girls Secondary School, Rahim Yar Khan. They scored 963 marks each.

SARGODHA: Sargodha BISE Controller of Examination Prof Gulzar Ahmad Awan, while announcing the names of distinction holders at a ceremony, said 57,505 candidates took the examination. Of them 31,554 were declared pass showing a percentage of 54.9.

Girls maintained their superiority in overall pass percentage - 15 per cent higher than the pass percentage of boys - this year too. The pass percentage of regular students remained 90.2 while the private students showed very poor pass percentage - 11.5 per cent - as out of 25,802 only 2,965 passed the examination.

This year, total marks are 1050 under new scheme.

Hafiz Faisal Munir Qamar (roll No 16149) of Government High School, Bhalwal, bagged first position securing 990 marks, Zenab Riaz (roll No 4570) of Presentation Convent High School, Sargodha, stood second with 988 marks while third position was shared by Tanvir Husain (roll No 17774) of Misali Ravian Science Academy, Satellite Town, Sargodha, and Khnsa Arooj Khan (roll No 277) of DPS and Inter Science College, Bhakkar, with 980 marks each.

The students who achieved distinction preferred to become doctor and expressed their wish to serve the suffering humanity.

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Boys from private academies of Muzaffargarh and Layyah secured top positions in the secondary school certificate examinations.

According to result notification, 32,236 candidates took the examination of them 21,182 were declared successful with 65.71 pass percentage.

Tariq Sohail of Abdallian Science Higher Secondary School, Muzaffargarh (roll No 9533) stood first with 986 marks, while second and third positions were bagged by Waqas Ali (roll No 17208) of Al-Rehman Public School, Layyah, and Hammadur Rehman (roll No 9865) of Superior Science Higher Secondary School, Muzaffargarh, with 983 and 982 marks, respectively.

GUJRANWALA: Eleven out of 12 positions were secured by Gujranwala city’s private educational institutions.

According to gazette, 146,950 candidates took examinations, of them 85,357 were declared successful, showing pass percentage of 58.07.

Ms Aiman Tahir (roll No 5283) of the Quaid-i-Azam Public College, Gujranwala, stood first securing 989 marks. Ms Shehrin Zahid (Roll No 4972) and Ferjad Adnan (roll No 26547) of Jadid Dastgir Ideal Girls and Boys High School, Gujranwala, got second and third positions with 987 and 984 marks respectively.

Meanwhile, the top three position holders intended to become doctor in future. They were all praise for private educational institutions and said they were playing active role in promotion of education.

It may be noted that no student of any government school secured any position in the examinations.

FAISALABAD: In this part of the province as well, girls notched all the top three positions in the annual matriculation examinations, 2006, according to APP.

Controller of Examination Ziaul Haq said at a ceremony that 79,698 candidates took the examination under old and new courses. In old course, only 7,036 of 17,323 candidates were declared successful showing pass percentage of 40.42, pass percentage in new course was 70.09.

Komal Rafique of A. W. Grammar Girls High School, Jaranwala, stood first with 994 marks. Ayesha Husain Sial and Saeeda Nimra Feroz of the Chenab Girls College, Jhang, bagged the remaining two positions with 990 and 988 marks.
