THATTA, Aug 9: About a dozen villages in Thatta district and at least 100 houses in Dadu district came under water on Wednesday as authorities in Sindh announced a number of steps to counter the growing flood threat.

Officials in Thatta said that water from an abandoned German Dhoro drainage project had inundated about a dozen villages, including Bachayo Brohi, Suleman Brohi, Abbas Brohi, Khan Babar, Haji Usman Babar, Haji Rahim Babar, Ongar and Haji Sakhani.

DADU: Meanwhile, about 100 houses in Sevo Jamali, Golo Faqir, Ahmed Khan Birhamani and Rajo Gandho villages were submerged by water from the Nai Gaj Nullah.

The katcha area of Dadu and Jamshoro also came under water.

The water level in Indus River at the Dadu-Moro Bridge was reportedly increasing.

SUKKUR: The high flood, approximately between 600,000 and 700,000 cusecs passing through Panjnad at present, was expected to reach the Gudu Barrage between August 10 and 11.

An ISPR spokesman told reporters that the irrigation authorities had made arrangements to handle the situation.

He said troops had been moved to different parts of Ghotki, Larkana, Khairpur and Nawabshah along the river be assist the civil administration, if needed.

LARKANA: A meeting held with DCO Muhammed Naseer Jamali in the chair reviewed the flood emergency plan.

The meeting decided to establish 11 relief camps in the district. These camps will be set up in the villages of Shahni, Phulphota and Izatji Wandh in Ratodero; in primary and middle schools at Aghani; at Nauabad, Purano Abad, Hatri Ghulam Shah and Purani Gudd, and in primary school Ganjidero and high school Vehar.

HYDERABAD: The flow of Indus River at Kotri up and downstream was recorded as 117,527 and 94,867 cusecs, respectively.

According to a Sukkur Barrage official, the level of Manchhar was recorded at 110.9-RL. He said that 3,000 cusecs water from Manchhar Lake was being released into Indus River.
