JACOBABAD, Aug 9: About 30 villages were inundated near the Guddu Barrage in the katcha area of Kashmore on Wednes-day.

Reports reaching here said that the villages including Blind Bhutto, Abdul Rehman, Bahadur Khan, Afzal Solangi, Chitty Masjid, Jham Ismail, Mehmood Haroon, Faqir Haroon and Abdul Wahab were flooded.

However, there are no reports of any loss of life from any village. People have taken refuge in raised places under open sky without getting any help from district administration.

Reports said that the DCO of Kashmore visited villages affected by the flood.

SUKKUR: Eight villages and standing cotton crop over 300 acres were flooded when Babli Minor developed a 30-foot wide breach at RD-148 near Salehpat on Tuesday nihgt.

The villages included Ghazi Khan, Jhando Shambhani, Qadir Dad Khan, Soomar Shambhani, Ibrahim and Hussain Bux, said the reports reaching here.

The villagers told the newsmen that they had informed the irrigation officials time and again that the embankments had grown weak and brittle over the years but they did not do anything to repair them.

They said that the water had damaged their valuable electronic items beyond repair and completely destroyed standing cotton crop over 300 acres.

After hours-long hectic efforts the villagers succeeded in plugging the breach on their own without getting any help from irrigation officials.

HEROIN SEIZED: Rangers personnel recovered 25 kilograms of high quality heroin from a Lahore-bound passenger coach on National Highway near Umrani Laro, Jacobabad, on Wednesday.

According to reports, a rangers personnel stopped a Lahore-bound Sada Bahar passenger coach (No:PFA-073) at rangers check post near Umrani Laro.

They carried out routine checking of the vehicle and recovered 25 kilograms of high quality heroin concealed under its dash board. The rangers put under arrest the coach driver, Ghulam Mus-tafa, and cleaner, Mohammad Rafiq.

DEMO: Scores of food department employees staged a protest demonstration in front of the office of district food controller on Wednesday in favour of their demands.

The employees led by the president of Food Department Emp-loyees Federation, Mohammad Younus Rajper, staged a protest demonstration in front of the office of district food controller.

He said that the highly qualified night watchmen of the dep-artment were not being promoted to higher posts as was being done in Karachi and other cities.
