Addressing a review meeting on Wednesday, the nazim asked the department to submit daily reports to his secretariat stating the locations where potholes filling work had been completed. He said this task should be carried out in minimum time under a crash programme and not only city government roads, but also towns should be helped in this regard.

The nazim said that vehicles for required work should be hired to ensure expeditious completion of work. He pointed out that all the city government resources were for the people of Karachi and, therefore, no slackness would be acceptable in making the benefits to reach them.

In a briefing, Mustafa Kamal was informed that in the first phase bulldozers were being used for filling the ditches which appeared on 80 roads in city government jurisdiction. In the second phase, carpeting will be done after the wet spell was over.

It was informed that towns were being provided trucks on their demand and hopefully all the potholes would be filled within a couple of weeks.

In this regard, people have been asked to contact at city government’s emergency centres on telephone numbers 9215007, 9215008, 9205639, 0295634, 9203443, 9246316, 9230060-3.

Meanwhile, the nazim inspected the new storm water drain being constructed at Schon Circle on Monday night. During the visit, he said that permanent arrangement was being made for rainwater disposal from Bath Island, Teen Talwar and adjoining areas and the city government has started work on an emergency basis.

He remained in the area till 6am and monitored the work.

The nazim pointed out that previously a four-feet-wide drain existed here for disposal of rainwater which was closed down and a 15-inch-dia sewerage line was laid which did not have that much capacity to drain out rainwater and area people had to face inconveniences.—APP
