KARACHI: Delay in result sheets delivery affects college admissions

KARACHI, Aug 9: Delay in delivery of SSC Part-II exams marks sheets to the students of science group is sure to cause an initial stage upset to ongoing centralised admission process meant for the first year classes of government-run colleges in the city.
A source privy to the admission process said that in a situation when the schools were closed due to summer vacation the pace of distribution of marks sheets of SSC examinations, a must for submission of placement or admission forms to designated bank branches, was not getting momentum.
According to the schedule of admission given by the centralised admission committee of the Sindh government, the admission forms could be submitted by students along with the photocopy of SSC mark sheet till Aug 19.
However, the latest schedule given by the board of secondary education regarding delivery of marks sheets to science group candidates required the schools to collect those latest by Aug 19. “It means that the marks sheets in question will take another couple of days to be delivered to the candidates,” commented an academician.
According to a source in the education board, it was not possible for the officials to get the science group marks sheets delivered to schools within a week after declaration of results as the number of candidates was remarkably high.
An official claimed that a good number of general group students marks sheets were still lying with the board as schools had not collected those from the board office so far.
A couple of school managers maintained that they were reluctant to handle the students during the summer vacation as the Sindh education department had asked the school to remain closed till Aug 15.
According to the BSE schedule, schools have been asked to collect the science group marks sheets from Aug 15 and onwards. The town-wise dates for delivery of marks sheets to schools are: Aug 15 for the schools located in New Karachi, North Nazimabad, Gulberg and Liaquatabad towns; Aug 16 for those located in Keamari, Site, Baldia and Orangi towns; Aug 17 for Lyari and Saddar; Aug 18 for Jamshed, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Shah Faisal, Landhi and Korangi; Aug 19 for the schools located in Malir, Bin Qasim and Gaddap towns.
The 40 designated branches of HBL till Wednesday afternoon had sold about 36,000 admission forms and prospectus. Banks received only five duly filled forms so far, said an official of the admission committee adding that if the marks sheets are not delivered to students in time we will be left with no option but to extend the last date for submission of admission forms.
