Azhar, Chauhan bat for Ganguly

CHENNAI, Aug 8: Former Indian captain Azharuddin and opener Chetan Chauhan feel that Saurav Ganguly's exclusion from the team was quite humiliating for him.

“The whole issue was not handled properly. They dropped him when he was performing well and picked when he was not. That's humiliation.

“If somebody did not want him in team, right thing would have been to given him a series or season. Like it happened in case of Steve Waugh. At the end of it they can make up their mind. That would have given Ganguly some respect,” Chauhan said.

Azhar said Ganguly deserved a better treatment. “This is not correct way to deal with a player, who has done so much for the country. You have to go by merit of player.”

He said young players are going to be very crucial. “The run up to these tournaments are very important. ”—Agencies
