Outrage over violations of rights by Israel

By Qudssia Akhlaque

ISLAMABAD, Aug 8: A UN body in Geneva has voiced its outrage at the massive violation of human rights in Lebanon by the Israeli forces and called upon the Security Council to play its due role to end the crisis and ensure delivery of humanitarian assistance.

The 58th Session of the Sub-Commission on Promotion and Protection of Human Rights on Monday adopted, with consensus, a chairman’s statement expressing its concern over grave human rights violations in Lebanon in the ongoing conflict.

Announcing the adoption of the statement by the UN body in Geneva, the Foreign Office on Tuesday said: “The draft text tabled by Mr Abdul Sattar, Sub-Commission’s Independent Expert and former foreign minister of Pakistan at the inaugural session of the Sub-Commission, received strong support from the 26-member subsidiary body of the UN Human Rights Council.”

Most independent experts expressed their unconditional support to the text tabled by Mr Sattar.
