HYDERABAD, Aug 8: Police arrested, after a brief late-night encounter in Tandojam on Monday, a bandit who had Rs250,000 price on his head and was involved in more than 40 cases, said the DPO of Hyderabad, Ali Ahmed Junejo, here on Tuesday.

He told newsmen that the list of Sardar alias Sardaro’s crimes included kidnapping for ransom, murder, dacoity and encounters with police etc.

The bandit had 17 cases lodged against him at Tando Allahyar, Matli, Tando Bago, Digri, Tando Ghulam Ali, Pangrio, Jhuddo and Sanghar police stations, he said.

He said that Tandojam police headed by SHO Wahid Bux Leghari started a snap checking of vehicles on Monday after they were tipped off that Sardaro was in the town.

During the checking police succeeded in laying their hands on Sardaro’s gang. An encounter ensued which continued for some time.

Police tried their best to nab all the gang members but they managed to flee leaving behind Sardaro, the DPO claimed.

Police recovered a repeater and cartridges from his possession, he said adding he had recommended promotion for the team which took part in the encounter.

To a query, he admitted that crime rate had risen in Latifabad and Cantonment areas and said special measures were being taken to curb it.
