KARACHI: Doctors, teachers protest against Israeli aggression

KARACHI, Aug 8: A large number of doctors as well as other professionals including engineers, lawyers, teachers, accountants, pharmacists and IT professionals on Tuesday held a protest demonstration in front of the Karachi Press Club against Israeli aggression on Lebanon and US terrorism against Muslims in the world.

The demonstration was jointly organised by the Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) and the Pakistan Professional Forum (PPF) to condemn Israeli brutalities against innocent Lebanese and Palestinians and the criminal silence of the world community and Islamic rulers over the Lebanon crisis.

Participants of the demonstration including men and women were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the US and Israel and demands to end violence against Muslims in the world, practical steps by the world community and Islamic countries to prevent bloodshed of Muslims.

Speaking on the occasion, the president of PIMA Karachi, Dr Misbahul Aziz condemned the Israeli aggression on innocent and unarmed Lebanese civilians and said that the US slaves could not protect Muslims in any Islamic country of the world.Criticising Arab and other Islamic countries, he said instead of sending their troops and supplying arms and ammunition to Lebanon, they were merely condemning the Israeli aggression which neither protected Palestinians nor would help Lebanese in any way.

He also denounced double standards adopted by the US and the West, saying they were demanding the release of two Israeli soldiers but were silent over the issue of thousands of Palestinian and Lebanese prisoners, languishing in Israeli prisons and torture cells.

“On one hand, US and the West demand democracy in Islamic world but when people vote Hamas to power, they refuse to accept people's mandate” Dr Aziz deplored.

Speakers including Prof Ishaque Mansoori, Amir Azeemi, Ghulam Qadir Jatoi Advocate and others condemned Israeli aggression on Lebanon and announced that doctors and engineers would be sent to Lebanon for relief and reconstruction activities.

They demanded of the government to make arrangements for sending Pakistani relief workers, doctors, nurses and engineers to Lebanon.

On the occasion, Dr Aziz said that an international organisation of doctors, Federation of Islamic Medical Associations (FIMA) had appealed for ambulances, medicines and other medical equipment for Lebanon. In this regard, people should deposit their donations into PIMA accounts.

Meanwhile, a rally was taken out at the University of Karachi campus to condemn the Israeli aggression against Lebanon and the silence of the world community over the issue.

The call for taking rally was given by Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS) and was led by KU Vice-Chancellor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Akhlaq Ahmed, and a number of faculty members participated in the rally which started from the Arts lobby and culminated at the administration block.

The participants were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against Israeli aggression. Speaking on the occasion, the vice-chancellor said that unity was the need of the hour for the Muslim world. He urged the United Nations to take effective measures against the Israeli atrocities.—PPI/APP
